4×4 Camper to Torres del Paine

Patagonia's most iconic national park, just over an hour from Puerto Natales — and with your own camper, without depending on tour schedules.

Route guide

Why explore Torres del Paine in your own 4×4

Torres del Paine combines glaciers, turquoise lagoons and the three granite towers that give the park its name — a landscape that draws travelers from all over the world year-round. Most people arrive on day tours from Puerto Natales, with fixed entry and departure times. With your own 4×4 camper, you set the pace instead: get there early for the morning light at the Cuernos viewpoint, stay for sunset at Lago Grey, and sleep in your own rooftop tent at an authorized campsite, instead of rushing back to the city.

The access road to the park combines paved and gravel stretches, with fords and curves that a compact, 4×4-drive vehicle — like the Outbase Jimny — handles comfortably, something that doesn't always happen with city cars or larger motorhomes.

What you need to know before you go

Paid park entry — buy it online here → 4–7 days recommended if you also visit Puerto Natales Regulated camping and overnight zones inside the park Changeable weather: strong wind and rain are common

What to bring in the camper

The Outbase camper already includes a rooftop tent, kitchen, refrigerator and side awning — what makes the biggest difference in Torres del Paine is layered warm clothing (the Patagonian wind drops the wind-chill even in summer) and, if you travel in low season (May–September), snow chains, which are included at no extra cost.

The best area to see Patagonian wildlife

Puma on the Patagonian steppe near Torres del Paine

Torres del Paine is also the best territory on the whole circuit to spot Patagonian wildlife in its natural habitat. It's common to come across guanacos grazing by the road and condors gliding over the peaks, and the park is internationally recognized for its puma population — with luck and patience, moving at your own pace in the camper gives you better odds of a sighting than a fixed-schedule tour.
