An adventure few take on and nobody forgets

Patagonia doesn't recognize the border between Chile and Argentina — some of its most spectacular landscapes, like Fitz Roy in El Chaltén, the Perito Moreno Glacier in El Calafate or the end of the world in Ushuaia, are on the other side of the line. Most traditional rent-a-cars don't allow crossing into another country. With the Outbase camper, adding the Border Permit, you can.

The Border Permit includes the vehicle's international crossing permit, paperwork we handle for you before your trip. The border crossing has limited hours and is planned in advance, and since the base mileage includes 250 km/day, a crossing route usually also calls for the Unlimited Mileage add-on. It doesn't have to be a single route: you can add one, two, or as many destinations as you want to your itinerary, depending on how much time you have.

Argentina's national trekking capital, at the foot of Mount Fitz Roy. Free, no-reservation trails to viewpoints like Laguna de los Tres. Close to El Calafate — same route, no separate leg.

King Penguin

Continental King Penguin colony in Bahía Inútil, Chilean Tierra del Fuego — one of the few in the world reachable by land. Open to visit between October and May.

Off the beaten path

Karukinka Park

The largest private nature reserve in Chilean Tierra del Fuego — little known, almost no visitors, high concentration of wetlands. A road is being built to connect it with Puerto Williams.

Ushuaia

The end of the world

The southernmost city in the world, on the shores of the Beagle Channel. You get there by crossing the Strait of Magellan on a ferry, ~600 km from Punta Arenas. Accessible trekking and Beagle Channel boat trips.
